TAKE CARE OF TEXAS PARTNERS ARCHIVE
Featured Partner — H-E-B
H-E-B is displaying the Take Care of Texas message on its new, 99-cent reusable bags. The bags are made of non-woven polypropylene, which typically can last for two years of weekly use, and are made of the same type of plastic used in yogurt containers, syrup bottles, straws and medicine bottles. In addition to offering the reusable bags for 99 cents, many stores also offer canvas bags for sale. Other H-E-B programs, with more on the way, that reduce and reuse plastic are:
- New plastic recycling collection bins at the entrances of all stores. These bins are made from recycled plastic and reclaimed wood. In addition to plastic shopping bags, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, and other “soft” plastics can be deposited in the bins.
- Items per bag program. H-E-B continues to increase the number of items per bag while not comprising the safety of customers and food. In the first two years of this program, H-E-B eliminated 136 million plastic bags from the waste stream.
- School Plastic Bag Recycling Program. Student groups earn up to $1 per pound of plastic shopping bags collected. Bags are recycled and made into large and kitchen-sized bags sold at H-E-B. Click here, to learn more about this program.
